VIDEO: Woman punched in face by stranger at Wicker Park 7-Eleven

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman will spend this holiday recovering from a punch to the face from a total stranger in Wicker Park.

It was caught on surveillance video released by the 7-Eleven store in the 1600-block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

The woman said she entered the convenience store at about 10:20 a.m. Monday when a man she'd never met swung at her on his way out, giving her a broken nose.

She had reconstructive surgery Thursday morning.

"The ferocity of this attack is just indicative of the criminals knowing there's no deterrent out here, they can do what they want," said Steve Jensen of the Bucktown Community Organization.

Police are using the surveillance video to try to identify the woman's attacker.
