TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Governor Bruce Rauner plans to survey the flood damage in the central and southern parts of Illinois Friday.
He declared 12 Illinois counties disasters because of the flooding, which has killed seven people in the state in the last week. Two teenagers from Taylorville, Ill., are still missing near Sangchris Lake and Pawanee in Christian County.
The county's emergency service director Mike Crews said "it's going to be difficult to find them" because the water is so high. Authorities may have to wait for floodwaters to recede, he said. One of the teenager's phones was tracked to the flooded area.
The Mississippi River is expected to crest Thursday in St. Louis. This could be the second-worst flood on record.
Rauner cut his vacation short to return to Illinois to assess the flooding, officials said.
