Severe weather hits Chicago area
No damage has been reported in Morris in Grundy County, which had severe thunderstorm warnings Sunday evening.

Severe weather passed through the counties south of Chicago Sunday afternoon, causing flash flooding and tornado warnings in northern Indiana.



In Hebron, Ind., officials rescued someone from a vehicle stuck in flooded waters and in Valparaiso, Ind., roads are closed due to flooding, officials said. A flash flood warning is in effect in Lake County in northwest Indiana until 10 p.m. Sunday.



A funnel cloud was spotted Sunday in DeMotte in Jasper County in Indiana.


A tornado touched down Sunday afternoon near DeMotte in Indiana.


The worst of the weather has passed, but the skies should clear shortly after midnight Monday, not impacting the morning commute.



In Morris in Grundy County, where there was a severe thunderstorm warning, there was no reports of severe property damage Sunday evening.



Earlier Sunday, the first round of showers moved into Chicago's Western suburbs around 7:30 a.m. and moved east into the city. The thunderstorm warnings continued in Iroquois, Jasper and Newton counties in Indiana until 6:15 p.m.



Storms let up briefly in the early afternoon, but another round of storm cells are expected to move in. There is a slight risk of severe weather Sunday afternoon, downgraded from an enhanced risk earlier.



The afternoon storms are more likely to become severe, according to ABC 7 meteorologist Phil Schwarz. There is a moderate risk for the south suburbs and Northwest Indiana for high winds and localized flooding. Temperature continue to rise during the day.

Rain didn't stop morning activities in the suburbs. The Hinsdale Humane Society hosted its 26th annual Pet Walk, and ABC7's Tanja Babich took a photo of some of the runners who braved the rain for the Lincoln Park Zoo United Run for the Zoo Sunday morning.
