VIRAL VIDEO: London's Shard struck by lightning

LONDON -- The tallest skyscraper in Western Europe became a gigantic lightning rod Friday afternoon during one of the city's many brief but intense thunderstorms.

Ash Patel filmed this video of London's Shard, which opened in 2013.

It was shot at the exact moment the lightning struck the 87-story, 306 meter skyscraper during a storm on May 22.

The lightning strike was brief but caught the attention of many Londoners, many of whom instantly turned to social media to share photos.
