Bedford Park police said just before 4 a.m., officers responded to a call about a crash involving a vehicle that was stolen from Chicago.
Officers said two men, who were seen running from that vehicle, then got into another vehicle at a nearby gas station at Archer Avenue and Roberts Road.
When police tried to stop them, there was a struggle and one suspect fired shots. The officer, hit several times, was rushed to Loyola Medical Center.
