Chicago weather: Winter storm winds down after blanketing area in snow

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A winter storm dropped a few inches of fine, fluffy snow on the Chicago area overnight.

Some on-and-off again lake-effect snow in areas near the lake, which could see an additional inch of accumulation Friday.

A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory for the Chicago area expired at 6 a.m.

The snow overnight made for a challenging morning commute. Chicago's Dept. of Streets and Sanitation has deployed 211 salt spreaders to address snow along arterial routes and DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

O'Hare- 3.1 inches
Norwood Park - 3 inches
Midway - 2.7 inches
Mt Prospect - 2.5 inches
Homer Glen - 1.8 inches

Lowell, Ind. - 0.5 inches

Friday is forecast to be cloudy with highs in the upper 20s.
