CHESTERTON, Ind. (WLS) -- An Indiana prosecutor says two Chesterton officers acted in self-defense when they shot at a man.

Officer Nolan Mancera and Lieutenant David Virijevich responded to the Hilton Garden Inn back in June.

Employees reported that Joseph Gerber had a gun and refused to leave.

As officers escorted Gerber from the hotel, they say he ran away and fired at police.

Officers fired back but say Gerber then shot and killed himself.

Prosecutors say the officers were protecting themselves and others.

The case has been closed.
