CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teenager was critically hurt in a mass shooting during a large gathering on Monday, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened at about 1:05 a.m. in the 3600-block of S. Cottage Grove near Ellis Park, Chicago police said.

Police said officers were at the scene of a large gathering when they heard gunshots.

A total of five people were shot, including a 17-year-old boy, according to police.

CPD said officers recovered four firearms. One person of interest was being questioned by police.

A 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times, he was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

A 36-year-old woman was shot in the left leg; a 33-year-old man was shot in the left arm and left leg; a 26-year-old man was shot in the left leg, and a 33-year-old man was shot in the right leg and right arm. They are expected to be OK.

"At the end of the day to have one person that was critically injured, and four folks in the hospital, whatever the situation it was senseless," 4th Ward Alderman Lamont Robinson said.

Chicago Police say, approximately two hours later, not far from that scene, they responded to a shooting at a bar near Vincennes and East 47th Street.

Investigators say a suspect shot through the front entrance. Nobody was hurt.
