Chicago weather: Severe Thunderstorm Watch for La Salle, Livingston counties overnight

Thursday, August 15, 2024
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Overnight storms could turn severe in parts of the Chicago area.

There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for La Salle and Livingston counties to the southwest of the city until 3 a.m.

Rain and clouds lingered into the afternoon after storms swept through in the morning.

From 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., another round of storms, potentially severe, is expected to move in. The main threat will be from high winds and hail.

There is a low tornado threat, ABC7 meteorologist Larry Mowry said.

The Storm Prediction Center has most of the Chicago area at a Level 2 risk for storms.

The area is under a Level 1 risk for severe storms Friday evening. That risk is for pop-up storms that could produce hail and wind.
