CHICAGO (WLS) -- Fans of the Harry Potter saga can now shop and drink "Butterbeer" in Chicago.

The new shop opened on Thursday at 676 N. Michigan Ave.

Dedicated witches and wizards from near and far dressed up for the grand opening.

"We got a robe, three wands and including the Chicago exclusive one," Chicago resident Britney Soto said.

A long line was wrapped around the block, as dozens waited in costume for their turn to get into the store.

"It's very reminiscent of Chicago architecture, which I love. It kind of has a speakeasy vibe; it looks immaculate, and it's basically based off of 'Goblet of Fire,'" fan and local "Hufflepuff" Bailey Ragusin said.

Marissa Posmituk is a tourist from Toronto; she said she got in line at 5 a.m.

"It's such a wholesome escape. It's love; it's power. It's all things good, you know? It's important to me," said Posmituk, who is part of the "Slytherin House."

The Magnificent Mile Association says it's happy to welcome the new business to the district.

"Retail moves largely as a group. So, this kind of investment and ownership signals to other retailers and other experientials operators that this a great place to make an investment," said Kimberly Bares, president and CEO of The Magnificent Mile Association.

The opening comes as retail districts look to make a comeback after the pandemic that shut down many brick-and-mortar stores.

"We use a company called Placer.ai, and we check their data. And they give us pedestrian counts, and we are 91 percent recovered in pedestrian activity," Bares said.

Choose Chicago says innovative businesses like the Harry Potter store offer new experiences that locals and tourists are looking for.

"A lot of travelers are looking for experiences, and a lot of them are looking for a more traditional experience. Anytime we can offer a wide variety of experiences to travelers, that is amazing for us," said Isaac Reichman, with Choose Chicago.
