Thieves hit Noble Square restaurant a day after celebrating 27 years in business, owner says

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Just a day after celebrating their 27th year in business, thieves broke into El Barco Mariscos in Noble Square on Monday.

The burglary happened at in the 1000-block of North Ashland Avenue around 4 a.m.

Surveillance cameras caught four men stealing a safe that was under the cash register, the owner said.

This is the third time they have been burglarized over the past year, according to the owner.

Just down the street near Milwaukee and Paulina, thieves also broke a side glass door at the Daebak Korean BBQ restaurant.

Suspects searched for money, but the manager said the restaurant doesn't keep a cash register in plain sight. Thieves left with nothing, and drove off in a silver SUV.



Two other similar business break-ins happened in the 4200-block of West Irving Park Road and the 600-block of West Adams Street on Monday.

No one is in custody in any of these incidents. CPD area detectives are investigating.
