Strong storms move through parts of northwest Indiana; suspected tornado seen near Indianapolis

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Severe weather was possible in parts of Northwest Indiana on Sunday.

A Tornado Watch issued for La Porte County in Indiana has expired.

Some Severe Thunderstorm Warnings that were issued have also expired.

A large funnel cloud was spotted near Indianapolis Sunday, with Tornado Warnings in the area.

Video shows debris hurled through the air.

A damage assessment was underway later Sunday, after a suspected tornado touched down in the Bargersville area.

The town's fire chief said the suspected twister cut a path of about 3 miles, and left at least 75 homes damaged.

No one was injured.

An emergency shelter has been set up at a local middle school for people left homeless from the storm.

The National Weather Service said a survey team will inspect the damage on Monday to determine if in fact a tornado hit the area.
A thunderstorm hit Chicago and its suburbs overnight Saturday into Sunday, causing damage in some areas.

Tree falls on car in western suburb


A tree fell on top of a car in west suburban Cicero. That happened at 29th Street and South Cicero Avenue. No injuries have been reported, but firefighters were called to the home.
Parts of Lake County, Illinois saw plenty of rain overnight

Most of the rain has moved out of the Chicago area, but some more rain drops have been seen Sunday.

An ABC7 Chicago viewer's dashboard camera captured a dust devil on Chicago's Southwest Side Saturday afternoon.

It was seen about 4 p.m. near 56th Street and Harlem Avenue.
