LINDEN -- Police are investigating an incident at a high school football game in New Jersey in which one player appears to strike another with his own helmet.

It happened in the second quarter of a game between Linden High School and Immaculata High School at Linden's Tiger Stadium last Friday night.

Following a play in which an Immaculata player loses his helmet, a Linden defensive lineman appears to bash that same player in the head.

Linden Public Schools superintendent Danny Robertozzi released the following statement regarding the incident:

The Linden Public School District is aware of the incident that occurred during the Varsity Football Game vs. Immaculata on Friday, September 11, 2015. An investigation by administration is taking place and disciplinary consequences will be issued accordingly. Due to student confidentiality, no further comments will be released.

The Linden Public School Disctrict is taking this very seriously and by no means is this incident a reflection of our school community or athletic teams.

Immaculata athletics director Tom Gambino reported receiving an apology letter from Linden school officials.

Linden police say the incident is under investigation by the Juvenile Bureau. If criminal charges are filed, a news release will be issued.
