Chicago tanning salon owner charged in 4th rape case

An ABC7 I-Team Investigation
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Marc Winner, a Chicago tanning salon owner charged with raping three women who were either employees or customers, is now accused in a fourth case.

"The defendant got a knife from his kitchen and cornered the victim in the living room. The defendant then cut the victim's dress and shoved her onto the couch," Asst. Cook County State's Attorney Mikki Miller said. "After sexually assaulting the victim, the defendant went into the bedroom and went to sleep."

Miller repeated what was said in court about the latest rape charge against 45-year-old Winner.

Prosecutors said the sexual assault happened in 2010 after an acquaintance of Winner drove him home from a Near North Side bar. She filed a police report two months after the incident but the case did not go anywhere at the time.

"The victim recently positively identified the defendant in a photo array," Miller said.

Winner is also charged with raping three other women who were either customers or employees of his West Loop tanning salon. Soleil was shut down by the city in May for operating without a valid business license.

Winner has been held without bond in the Cook County Jail since he was charged in the third case in late April.

He was visibly upset in court Wednesday afternoon.

"We had a motion to review his bond situation today and based on these new developments that has to wait and certainly that takes a toll on him, and we're all upset, we're all disappointed by this," said Steven Weinberg, Winner's attorney. "We look forward to trying all of these cases in the courtroom."

Winner's attorneys filed a motion Wednesday to dismiss the oldest case against him - one from 2009 - saying his right to a speedy trial has been violated.

He will be back in court on August 17.
