CHICAGO (WLS) -- The parents of a 12-year old Chicago girl who committed suicide are taking legal action against their child's school.

McKenzie Phlipot took her life back in May. Her parents are suing Chicago Public Schools and the Board of Education.

They say officials at Helen Peirce School of International Studies failed to protect their daughter from bullying they say she suffered for a year and a half.

The school district and school board are not commenting on the lawsuit.
