

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A person was struck and killed after getting out of her SUV on I-57 on the South Side and a person who got out to help her was also struck in a hit-and-run Sunday night, Illinois State Police said.
The incident occurred at about 8:51 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near Halsted Street.
Police said a female occupant got out of an SUV on the shoulder when she was struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A male occupant of the SUV was hit by another vehicle after he got out to help the person previously struck. He was transported to a hospital with injuries.
