74-year-old Wadsworth man accused of downloading nearly 200K files of child sexual abuse material

WADSWORTH, Ill. (WLS) -- A north suburban man is facing child pornography charges after being arrested and accused of downloading nearly 200,000 files of child sexual abuse material, police said.

Steven C. Kazmer, 74, was arrested Wednesday in Wadsworth, Lake County officials said. Kazmer is facing eight felony count of child pornography.

An investigation including the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, Woodstock Police Department and the Illinois Attorney General's Internet Crime Against Children Task Force found a suspect believed to be downloading and sharing child abuse sexual material, officials said.

On Wednesday, a search warrant was executed at a home in the 4700 block of Pebble Beach Drive in Wadsworth by the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Waukegan Police Department, the Illinois Attorney General's Office along with Electronic Storage Detection K9s Enzo and Grip with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.

Kazmer was arrested after multiple electronic devices were found with child sexual abuse material files that were believed to have been deleted, officials said.

The suspect appeared in court Thursday, where he was ordered to remain in custody pending his trial.

Kazmer is scheduled to appear in court again August 5.
