ABC7 Chicago to broadcast 2026 Bud Billiken Parade, celebrating 97 years of excellence

CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC7/WLS-TV Chicago announced today that it will broadcast the 97th annual Bud Billiken Parade, which kicks off the Back-to-School Festival. The two-hour special, featuring the country's largest African American parade, will air live on ABC 7 and abc7chicago.com on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon and will also be available across ABC 7's streaming and digital platforms.

ABC 7 Eyewitness News team members Cheryl Burton, Hosea Sanders and Val Warner will host the event from the broadcast booth, while Terrell Brown and Karen Jordan cover the parade's action and excitement from the ground. ABC 7's Samantha Chatman and other staffers will ride atop the ABC 7 Chicago float, engaging with the crowd along the parade route.

This year's countdown to the Bud Billiken Parade celebrates 97 Years of parading in excellence and will showcase some of the best and brightest of Chicago talent. The back-to-school parade will feature heart-pumping performances from the local Jesse White Tumblers, South Shore Drill Team, Golden Knights Drill Team, Chi-Town Cheerleaders, Next Level Dance Team, MBM Dance Team and Little Ladies of Virtue, among others.

Chicago native, actor, model and entrepreneur LisaRaye McCoy will serve as this year's Billiken Parade Grand Marshal. McCoy is best known for her roles in "The Players Club" and "Single Ladies" and as the former first lady of the Turks and Caicos.

With over 1 million spectators, the Bud Billiken Parade holds the distinction of being the oldest and biggest African American parade in the nation. Every August, it is a day of celebration and family gatherings, marking the beginning of the new school year for Chicago families.

The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on 39th Street and Martin Luther King Drive, with grand marshal McCoy leading the procession south onto King Drive, through Washington Park and concluding at Garfield Boulevard.
