Bicyclist killed in Kankakee County crash, sheriff says

MANTENO, Ill. (WLS) -- A bicyclist was killed in a Kankakee County crash with a car on Monday morning, the sheriff's office said.

Kankakee County sheriff's deputies responded to the crash on 4000 East Road, approximately 1.5 miles north of 6000 North Road around 7:40 a.m. That's east of Manteno.

There, deputies and emergency personnel found a bicyclist unconscious in the roadway. The Manteno Fire Protection District provided aid before transporting the victim to a local hospital.

The bicyclist, identified as 29-year-old Bailey C. Caldwell of Bourbonnais, died from his injuries.

What led up to the crash was not immediately clear.

Part of 4000 East Road was closed for several hours while emergency personnel processed the scene. The roadway has since been reopened.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
