Chicago Bears fans turn out for first public practice at Halas Hall

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (WLS) -- Fans eager for the start of football season gathered at Halas Hall for the Chicago Bears' first practice open to the public, celebrating the return of football and looking ahead to the fall.

While baseball season continues with the Cubs and White Sox still pursuing playoff berths, attention at Halas Hall was focused on the Bears and the upcoming NFL season. Fans arrived with high expectations after last season's success, and some were openly optimistic about what lies ahead.

"Bears going 17-0 this season. I'm putting my entire bank account on it," Bears fan Alan Rivera said.

Fans watched closely as players practiced, analyzing every detail from the sidelines. For many, the event provided an opportunity not only to see the team up close but also to collect autographs and connect with fellow supporters.

Payton Rietgraf, who was named after Bears legend Walter Payton, traveled two hours with his family to attend.

"When you're a Bears fan everything's worth it with these guys," Rietgraf said. "We went to every game last year. We own season tickets. It's a family tradition."

The event extended beyond football practice. The Bears set up food and entertainment areas near the entrance, offering activities for fans of all ages. Children received face paint, while visitors tested their athletic abilities with events such as the vertical leap and standing broad jump. Others took photos and tried on football equipment.

"Great experience," Bears fan Ben Chamness said. "They got a couple autographs. Some cool pics. Very fun to be a part of."

The atmosphere reflected the excitement surrounding the team as fans gathered to celebrate the start of another season. With games yet to be played, supporters remained enthusiastic about the Bears' prospects.

"You're a real fan. I am. Die hard. C'mon. I drink, sleep, whatever, Bears," Bears fan Sandra Gardea said.

The Bears have nine more practices scheduled to be open to the public before their first preseason game on Aug. 15.
