Fire rips through West Town apartment building

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Intense flames ripped through an apartment building in West Town Wednesday morning.

The Chicago Fire Department said the fire broke out at about 2:49 a.m. in the 1400-block of West Grand Avenue.

Neighbors said they woke up to loud noises before rushing out of their homes to see.

"Suddenly heard extremely loud noises coming from upstairs," neighbor Parker said. "Something sounded frantic, something sounded like it was breaking. Eventually we got a knock on the door.

"My next door neighbors, their porch is totally on fire," neighbor George Baker said. "It just got destroyed.

No injuries have been reported.
