Closures in effect for Chicago-Halsted Bridge reconstruction project

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Avenue Bridge over the Chicago River closed on Monday.

The entire reconstruction project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Road crews started the major reconstruction project to replace the bridge and the adjacent Halsted Street Viaduct.

The construction will impact CTA bus traffic. Officials ask commuters to plan ahead and allow extra time.

Road Closures:

Halsted Street will be closed in both directions from Ancona Street to the Chicago River.

Chicago Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction from Larrabee Street to Peoria Street.

Halsted Detours through October 2025:

-Northbound Detour: Eastbound on Grand Ave, Northbound on Orleans St, Westbound on Division St, back to Halsted St.

-Southbound Detour: Eastbound on Division St, Southbound on LaSalle Dr, Westbound on Grand Ave, back to Halsted St.
