CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 78-year-old man was shot and killed inside a home on the Southwest Side Tuesday night, Chicago police said.
The shooting took place at about 8:01 p.m. in the 4500-block of South Lamon Avenue in Garfield Ridge.
Police said the 78-year-old victim was found shot in the chest, unresponsive in the living room.
Shots appeared to have been fired into the home, as there were bullet holes in the window.
The man has been identified to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Marvin Cook.
Investigators are looking at surveillance video for clues.
Police sources said the shooting was likely targeted, but the exact motive is unclear.
Many neighbors woke up to the sound of those gunshots. And to make matters worse, two of the neighbors' vehicles were caught in the crossfire and left with shattered windows.
Many knew Cook.
They said they heard more than two dozen gunshots fired off on the block.

Some of that damage still can be seen on vehicles along the street.
Alderman Mike Rodriguez, who represents the 22nd Ward, says his office is working with CPD to ensure justice is served.
"It's such a sad incident; it's a real poverty of the soul when an individual thinks they can solve conflict with picking up a gun and shooting someone and murdering them," Rodriguez said.
Neighbors said Cook lived at the home for decades and was often surrounded by family.
Loved ones close to Cook stopped by the home Wednesday, but were too shaken to speak.
CPD is now hoping anyone can provide them with information as the search continues for the suspects.
"Many times these crimes get solved when caring family members or neighbors come up with information to assist people in solving this. We want justice for this man," Rodriguez said.
Police recovered a number of shell casings at the scene.
Area One detectives are investigating, and no one is in custody.
