At least a dozen states report cyberattacks on water utilities, sources say

ATLANTA (WLS) -- Atlanta appears to be the latest city to have its water supply hit by a cyberattack.

City officials say they suspect hackers caused a recent outage where water pumps went down, triggering a boil water order.

Sources tell ABC News that possible cyberattacks targeting water and wastewater utilities have been reported in at least a dozen states.

The first public sign of the cyberattacks came from Minnesota authorities, who said that hackers targeted about 30 water systems in that state last week.

Experts say Iran is the prime suspect in the cyberattacks.
