Funeral services to be held Saturday for two-term Republican governor

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar lied in state Friday ahead of being laid to rest this weekend.
He died Sunday at the age of 79 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
On Friday, Governor Edgar lied in state at the Illinois State Capitol Building, where visitors were able to pay their respects.
Visitors could sign a memorial book and pay their respects between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Central Baptist Church in Springfield. The Saturday memorial services can be viewed on ABC7 Chicago streaming platforms.

He served as the state's governor from 1991 to 1999.
Edgar was the last Republican governor in Illinois elected to more than one term. He is remembered as someone who served the state well.
