Driver convicted of murder in West Loop hit-and-run that killed man nearly 4 years ago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A jury found a driver guilty in a Chicago hit-and-run crash that killed a man nearly four years ago.

The crash happened in the West Loop neighborhood's 100-block of North Ogden Avenue in September 2022.

Police say Joseph Verdone drove onto the sidewalk and struck 22-year-old Enrique Martinez, who died at the scene.

On Friday, a jury found Verdone, of Hillside, guilty of first-degree murder.

Verdone faces several years in prison, and he is due back in court for a pre-sentencing hearing on Sept. 22.
