Man found dead during house fire in Lake Forest, officials say

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (WLS) -- A man was found dead during a house fire this past weekend in the north suburbs, officials said Wednesday.

First responders were sent to the scene around 12:02 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Griffith Road in Lake Forest, the Lake County Coroner's Office said.

Lake Forest police and fire department members found a two-story home with flames visible from a window, officials said. As they searched the house, a person was found dead inside.

The county coroner was also called to the scene. The person found dead was a man, but he has not yet been identified.

The man died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, according to a preliminary autopsy by the Lake County Coroner's Office.

No further information about the cause of the fire was available as Lake Forest police and fire and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal continue to investigate.
