Local Spotlight: National Louis University

National Louis University has spent more than 140 years preparing students for meaningful careers, and as it enters a new chapter of leadership, that mission is only gaining momentum.

Dr. Eddie Phillips is stepping in as the university's incoming president, succeeding Dr. Nivine Megahed, who guided NLU for 16 years. Rather than treating the transition as a break from the past, Dr. Phillips sees it as an opportunity to build on a strong foundation. Already immersed in the NLU community, he has come to know firsthand the culture and strengths that make the university stand out - a genuine commitment to access, flexibility, and student success.

While higher education nationally faces enrollment declines and financial pressures, National Louis University has continued to grow and innovate. That resilience comes from staying closely connected to the needs of students, employers, and the community, ensuring that an NLU education translates directly into real-world opportunity.
Looking ahead, Dr. Phillips is focused on strengthening the university's role as a driver of workforce development, helping students build the skills employers are looking for right now. He points to the diversity and determination of NLU's student body as one of the most exciting parts of the university's identity, largely made up of first-generation students, working adults, and career changers who bring resilience and ambition to their education.

With years of tremendous momentum already behind it, National Louis University is looking to the future with confidence - grounded in a legacy of service and driven by a new vision for what's next.
