Children, driver not hurt as school bus crashes into utility pole, McHenry Co. officials say

NUNDA TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) -- A school bus with children onboard crashed into a utility pole and ended up in a ditch in unincorporated McHenry County, officials said.

The crash happened on Monday at about 4:33 p.m. in the area of Colby Point Road and S. Justen Road in unincorporated McHenry County, Nunda Rural Fire Protection District said.

Two children aged between four and six were on the bus with the driver.

Officials said in the crash some power lines came down from the impact.

Since no injuries were initially reported and wires were involved, firefighters kept the driver and children on board until ComEd could secure the power.

At about 5:30 p.m. everyone safely exited the school bus.

One of the children was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The second child was released to their parents at the scene.

The school bus driver was not hurt.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
