CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Illinois Tollway is unveiling new patrol trucks that feature brighter, more visible emergency lights.
The Highway Emergency Lane Patrol, or H.E.L.P. trucks, have red and orange flashing light patterns. The goal is to make them just as easy for drivers to see during emergencies as police and fire vehicles.
"Customers who see the activated red lights on the H.E.L.P. trucks should react just as they would if they saw any other emergency vehicle," said Kristi Lafleur, Illinois Tollway. "They should really move over, and slow down."
The tollway director says yellow lights alone were not as visible and did not do as well alerting drivers of the help trucks' presence on the roadway.
