Just one day after being acquitted in the subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely, Marine veteran Daniel Penny shared his thoughts on the "vulnerable position" he said he was in.
In a video statement from his attorneys, Penny says he was protecting himself and other passengers from an erratic Jordan Neely.
After Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman spoke for about 20 minutes, the rally broke up and a couple skirmishes broke out.
At the request of Neely's family, the Rev. Al Sharpton was expected to deliver his eulogy.
Daniel Penny is expected to turn himself in Friday to face criminal charges in connection with the chokehold death of Jordan Neely.
"His death is a tragedy that never should have happened," Mayor Eric Adams said.
