Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro will stand trial June 1, 2027, a federal judge in New York decided Wednesday.
The Trump administration has told Venezuela's interim president that the regime must meet the White House's demands before being allowed to pump more oil.
Trump said the money would be controlled by him as president but it would be used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States.
Nicolás Maduro and his wife pleaded not guilty to federal charges Monday in Manhattan federal court.
The indictment accuses Maduro and his wife of ordering kidnappings, beatings, and murders of those who owed them drug money or undermined their drug trafficking operation.
It is estimated that some 50,000 Venezuelan migrants settled in Illinois over the last three years after being bused there from Texas.
