An 8-year-old girl in Louisiana has died after being infected by an extremely rare brain-eating amoeba that is found in warm freshwater, her family says.
Growing concerns over a parasitic intestinal illness have prompted some customers at a local farmers markets to take a closer look at how their produce is grown.
Officials also said they anticipate cases of cyclosporiasis to continue increasing in the U.S., possibly through the end of August.

Reported cases of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite, have surpassed 2,600 in Michigan, the state's health department said on Monday.
Cases of the parasitic infection have been found in several states.
