On Tuesday, Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill into law that bans cellphones in public schools statewide.
In 14 years, the program has grown from serving 35 schools to 188. That includes more than 78,000 students across the city.
Hundreds of teachers in the Temecula Valley Unified School District continue to protest over the board's decision to block a curriculum that mentioned gay rights leader Harvey Milk.
"It's reducing all the work educators do to support students down to a single letter," one school official said.
The blocked sites include TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, BeReal and Discord. Officials said other social media sites could be added later.
