A Taliban commander who led and directly participated in the hostage-taking of journalist David Rohde was sentenced Tuesday in New York to 42 years in prison.
The military based the strike on a reasonable certainty standard to launch the strike on the vehicle. Tragically, it was the wrong vehicle, the official said, adding that no reasonable certainty is not 100% certainty.
They are the first Americans to leave the country with help from the U.S. government since Biden ended the massive evacuation efforts.
The Taliban has been massing forces in and around Panjshir province, the only one yet to fall under the militants' control.
The protest was organized by Chicago for Afghans specifically called for changes to what they said is a slow visa process for Afghan people facing a dire situation.
"This is an unmitigated disaster, first and foremost for Afghans. And I would also say that it's an American-sponsored disaster in many ways, we collectively hold responsibility for that across party lines," said Professor Ben Hopkins of George Washington University, a noted expert on Afghanistan.
