CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Lundberg Survey reports that the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is down to $3.58 cents. In Chicago, which has some of the highest gas prices in the country, the average price is about 10 cents higher.

The price of fuel has dropped nine cents per gallon over the past few weeks, the largest drop this year despite a rise in crude oil prices.

Analysts say that U.S. refinery suppliers are in good shape, so they have aggressively cut wholesale prices to chase sales.
