Cyber attack targets company that runs Blue Island, Waukegan health centers

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A company that runs three medical centers in the Chicago area has fallen victim to a cyber attack.

Community Health Systems operates metro south medical in Blue Island and two vista medical centers in Waukegan.

The attackers stole information on more than four million patients from its computer network in April and June.

No medical or credit card records were taken but sensitive information like patient names, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers and social security numbers were compromised.

Community Health Systems says it is notifying patients affected by the attack.
