CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 17-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon after shooting himself on Chicago's South Side, officials said.

The shooting happened at about 1 p.m. at a home day care in the 6500-block of South Oakley Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood. The home had a "No Guns Allowed" sign on the window.]

The boy was identified as Angelo Hogan, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The licensed day care was not operating at the time. The homeowner's nieces and nephew were at the house, but did not witness the shooting.

The boy shot himself in front of his mother, who told a neighbor she did not know he had a gun or where he got it.

The mother told Rev. Donovan Price that the boy had said he was troubled over the past few days.

"The trauma, the problems of living in Chicago, living in Englewood, living in a warzone, affects everybody in different ways," Price said.
