7 teens shot, 1 fatally, in separate shootings across city
At least seven teenagers were shot Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning across Chicago, police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- At least seven teenagers were shot Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning across Chicago, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was killed in one of the shootings in the Little Village neighborhood.

The shooting took place at about 11:11 p.m. in the 2600-block of South Hamlin Avenue.

Police said the victim was standing outside when a vehicle drove past and someone inside fired shots, hitting the teen in the head and chest.

The teen was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

A separate shooting in the South Austin neighborhood Tuesday night left three teens wounded, police said.

The shooting took place at about 9:29 p.m. in the 200-block of South Central Avenue.

Police said the victims were standing outside when a dark-colored sedan drove past and someone inside fired shots, hitting the teens.

An 18-year-old man was shot and transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

A third victim, a 16-year-old boy, was found at the scene with a graze wound to the arm and declined treatment, police said.

A separate shooting in the South Deering neighborhood left a 16-year-old girl wounded, police said.

The shooting took place at about 12:37 a.m. in the 10600-block of South Bensley Avenue.

Police said the victim was shot in the left foot and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in good condition. Further details on the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.

A shooting on the Far South Side left a 17-year-old boy in serious condition, police said.

The shooting took place at about 10:16 p.m. in the 13200-block of South St. Lawrence Avenue.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was standing outside when he was shot in the legs. He was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

A 16-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood, police said.

The shooting took place at about 8:23 p.m. in the 11700-block of South Normal Avenue.

Police said the victim was outside when several suspects got out of a car and opened fire before fleeing in the car.

The teen was wounded in the forearm and a graze wound to the stomach and transported to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

The shootings come as latest data from the Chicago Police Department shows shootings in the past 12 months are down more than 27% from the yearly average of the prior three years.
