Play looks at technology, society
Award-winning Chicago actress Regina Taylor brings her newest production, 'stop. reset.' to the Goodman Theatre.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Award-winning Chicago actress Regina Taylor is bringing her newest production, "stop. reset." to the Goodman Theatre.

"'Stop.Reset.' is set in Chicago, about an African-American publisher of books. And as e-books are out-selling actual book, he is fighting to save his business from extinction," Taylor said.

Taylor wrote and directed the show. She said the themes really resonate in today's world.

"The ground that we stand on is shifting in terms of social consciousness, race and gender, sexuality and economic. All of these things are happening right now. I don't think we've had this type of change since the '60's," she said.

A Golden Globe winner and multiple Emmy nominee, Taylor has been associated with the Goodman Theatre for 20 years. In addition to writing, directing and starring in numerous productions at the renowned company, Taylor also serves as artistic associate. She said her goal is to break down the walls of the theatre experience.

"We're doing dinners, intimate dinners, symposia around Chicago and working with different artists around Chicago, from people who compose music to spoken word to visual artists," Taylor said.

New to "stop. reset." is a microsite that allows people to participate online.

"They can enter before they get to the theatre, while they are at the theatre or they can enter afterwards. The conversation continues. There is a virtual audience and there is a live audience," she said.

And it's all for her hometown.

"I love Chicago. I live here in Chicago. I think that the people here are very true to who we are as Americans. I want to set something here, where my heart is," she said.

"Stop. reset." opens Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Goodman's Owen Theatre and runs through June 21.
