Firefighter proposal uses smoke, mirrors to surprise police officer girlfriend

HOUSTON -- Talk about pulling out all the stops!

A Houston firefighter posted this video on YouTube showing how he proposed to his girlfriend.

Jesse Gonzalez, 31, has been with the Houston Fire Department for 11 years.

Last Friday, the engineer operator decided it was finally time to ask his girlfriend, Olga Peck, to marry him.

Olga is a police officer with the Houston Police Department.

Jesse says he came up with the idea in February to fake a fire call in Olga's district while she was working. It's standard practice for a police officer to respond to a fire to help with security.

Jesse talked to managers at both the Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department and they signed off on the idea and helped him set it all up.

When Olga arrived to the fake scene, Jesse came walking out of the smoke, got down onto one knee, and popped the question. She was shocked, totally surprised, but she did say yes.

The couple has not set a date yet. Jesse says he spent a lot of money on the ring on a fireman's budget, but is now saving up to give her the wedding of her dreams.
