Junior Ecology Club at the Thorn Creek Nature Center
Thorn Creek Nature Center has a monthly Junior Ecology Club where children hike through the wild and discover how birds and mammals survive winter.

PARK FOREST, Ill. (WLS) -- Just because old man winter is blanketing our area with snow doesn't mean you have to stay inside. Thorn Creek Nature Center has a monthly Junior Ecology Club where children hike through the wild and discover how birds and mammals survive winter.

Naturalist April Richards joined us live during our news Saturday morning from the Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve to tell us about the club. Young people should be prepared to get muddy, dress for the weather, wear boots and long pants.

Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve is a 985-acre Oak/Hickory woodland with upland views of Thorn Creek and wetland areas. It has 3.5 miles miles of hiking trails to explore.
