HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- Joey Chestnut, the reigning hot dog-eating champion, is trying something new at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond - pierogis.

Chestnut defended his title at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island on July 4, 2014.

He is expected to join several other top eaters for the World Pierogi Eating Championship in northwest Indiana on Wednesday.

Competitors will try to down the most pierogis in eight minutes. They are expected to eat around 12 pounds of pierogis each, in pursuit of the title.
