The Allis of Chicago Soho House offers all-day meal options
Chicago Soho House in the West Loop has wood-roasted rotisserie chicken at The Chicken Shop as well as all-day meal options at The Allis in its lobby.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Friday night, ABC7's Steve Dolinsky profiled the new Neapolitan pizza joint located inside the Soho House in the West Loop. Tonight, part two. That's because there are two other eating options inside the public space - which doubles as a hotel as well as a private club.

As you enter The Soho House, walk to your right and up a short staircase. There, you'll be greeted by the scent of wood-roasted rotisserie chickens rubbed in garlic powder, oregano and a couple different types of paprika. The Chicken Shop focuses on just one thing, which means the raw ingredient is paramount.

"I went to the farm, we tried 20 different birds; I went to the farm, met the Amish farmers myself, spent a day on the farm with them watching what they eat, how these chickens spend their days," said Chef Devon Boyce.

"We marinate them for 24 hours, after which we steam it, not to a time but to a core temperature of the bird," he said. "We then chill it very quickly, back down to fridge temperature, after which we marinate it a second time."

After this 48-hour process, the birds turn slowly over hickory wood until they're burnished and blistered. Chopped into manageable pieces, they get a quick seasoning of salt and a squeeze of lemon. Six sides are available, including addictive crinkle fries, creamy slaw, oozy mac 'n cheese, grilled corn or a lightly-dressed salad with fresh avocado.

In The Allis, the first floor lobby, an all-day menu changes four times a day and is set out on a massive table for everyone to see.

"We wanted to utilize the lobby area in the hotel, and it started off from a little croissant-Danish bar into a full day's kitchen essentially," Boyce said.

With morning snacks, lunchtime sandwiches, afternoon tea and heartier meat pies or salads later in the day, the kitchens run non-stop.

"There's a lot going on in the building," said Boyce.

Now the Chicken Shop is only open for dinner, but you can eat here in The Allis, which is essentially the lobby for the building, from 7 a.m. until midnight, because it's all open to the public.

Both restaurants, as well as The Allis, serve brunch on the weekends.
