Brace yourselves, flu season is coming

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Centers for Disease Control says that flu season reaches its peak between December and March. Doctors say the time to get a flu vaccine is now. Influenza is highly contagious, so the annual seasonal vaccination is the number one way to prevent it.

Children, seniors, and pregnant mothers are more susceptible to the virus, so having them vaccinated each year is urgently important. It takes up to two weeks for your immunity to build up after getting a flu shot, so the CDC recommends you get vaccinated as soon as flu vaccine becomes available.

The CDC is NOT recommending the nasal vaccine FluMist for the 2016-2017 flu season. It was judged to be less effective than the flu shot. Jennifer Nabong from CVS MinuteClinic of Chicago joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about the importance of the flu vaccine.
