Possible stomach virus outbreak reported at Schererville school

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (WLS) -- A possible outbreak of a stomach virus is expected to keep a large number of students home from school on Thursday.

Pfeifer Elementary School administrators sent a letter to parents Wednesday afternoon warning of the possibility of gastroenteritis. Nearly a quarter of students were out sick on Wednesday.

Officials are asking parents with keep their kids home if they show symptoms that include nausea and vomiting. The evening staff cleaned and disinfected classrooms, and school buses are also being cleaned.
