CHICAGO (WLS) -- Sunday, May 3, thousands of people around Illinois will walk to raise money in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. The 27th annual Walk MS is taking place at 11 sites across the state. More than 12,000 people are expected to attend and raise more than $2.7 million.

More than 20,000 people in Illinois are living with MS and 2.3 million worldwide. The state of Illinois is among the leaders in MS research, with more than 20 MS research projects currently taking place at institutions statewide to help repair function, restore what has been lost, and end MS forever. Walk MS is the largest annual fundraiser of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Illinois Chapter.

Spring Walk MS locations in Illinois include Bloomington, Chicago Lakefront, McHenry County (Lake in the Hills), North Shore (Glenview), Northwest Suburbs (Hoffman Estates), Rockford, St. Charles, South Suburbs (Orland Park), Southwest Suburbs (Lockport), Springfield and West Suburbs (Naperville). Two additional Walk MS events take place in the fall on Sunday, Sept. 13, in Peoria and Urbana.
