ComEd helps veterans, military personnel pay bills

CHICAGO (WLS) -- On the eve of Veterans Day, ComEd reminds customers about bill payment assistance for veterans and active military personnel, as well as civilian residential customers experiencing financial hardship.

The ComEd Helps Activated/Veteran Military Personnel, or CHAMP, program provides bill payment assistance to deployed military members overseas and veterans who reside within the ComEd Northern Illinois service area and demonstrate the need for help. Those eligible for CHAMP can get bill payment assistance up to $1,000 while funds are available, deferred payment plans, extended payment due dates, cancellation of late charges, deposit reductions or refunds and budget payment plans.

Residential customers experiencing financial hardship can get help through the Residential Special Hardship Program, which provides grants of up to $1,500 towards their electricity bill.
