Lakeview burglaries investigated

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three burglaries in three days have residents on two Lakeview blocks concerned. In one of the incidents, a woman was home when she saw men in masks trying to pry open her back door. They ran off, but the incidents have continued.

"It seems aggressive that they would keep coming back to the same neighborhoods. They must have a lot of confidence or feel like they're untouchable," said Linnea Chambery, a Lakeview resident.

While Chicago police haven't said if they think the same crew is responsible for all of the recent burglaries in 3700-block of N. Lakewood and the 3700-block of N. Wayne, the approach is similar.

All of the crimes happened in the first three days of January, with two in the overnight hours. In each of the cases, the burglars got in through an unlocked window or pried open a door.

"I'm on a neighborhood website and they've been sending out messages just warning everyone to lock your doors and don't buzz anyone in," said Nicole Tingwall, a Lakeview resident.

Police have only a vague description of the burglars. While the recent rash of crimes is concerning to neighborhood residents, police statistics show burglaries in the 19th District are down 17 percent year over year.
