CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 26-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery on Chicago's North Side, police said.

Investigators said the man was sitting in a red SUV parked in the 6100-block of North Wolcott Avenue in the city's West Ridge neighborhood around 10 p.m. Thursday when three men walked up to the vehicle.

One of those men got into the back seat, pulled out a gun and announced a robbery, police said. The suspect allegedly shot the victim in the shoulder before getting away with his wallet and cell phone.

Brandon Calderon lives across the street and was helping his little brother with homework when he heard arguing outside.

"We heard a gunshot, just a single gunshot, it sounded from a smaller gunshot, and that's when I told my younger brother to lay down on the ground" Calderon says.

The victim was rushed to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition stabilized. Police said he is expected to make a full recovery.

"It's just crazy," says Zein Syed, who lives in the neighborhood. "I walk down here all the time so it's scary to know you have to be careful around here."

Neighbors say they've heard arguments on that corner in the past.

"I'm kind of concerned this will happen again," Calderon says. "Will my family be in danger?"

Officers are searching for the three suspects. They have not released any detailed descriptions.
